• In 1984, visionary engineer Paddy Byrnes founded Croom Medical, leveraging his extensive background in tooling and senior management roles in the engineering industry. His inspiration led to the creation of a company dedicated to crafting tooling, fixtures, and orthopedic implants.

• Croom Medical, a prominent player in precision tooling and component assembly for 6 years, achieved a significant milestone in 1990 by receiving ISO 9001 certification, becoming the first company in the Munster region to earn this accreditation.

• To meet growing customer demand for precision-engineered medical devices, Croom Medical expanded its operations in 1995 with its first site expansion and growing its team to over 15 people. During this period, the company began providing high-quality joint replacement implants for Howmedica Osteonics and Johnson & Johnson. Croom Medical also attained ISO 13485 and ISO 14001, further solidifying its commitment to excellence.

In 1999, Croom Medical made a pioneering investment in advanced CNC technologies. This included its first CNC 5-axis machine, a strategic move that positioned the company as one of the first in the region to do so. This enabled the manufacture of intricate orthopedic implants with unmatched precision and efficiency.

• Croom Medical continued its growth trajectory by investing in a new 15,000 sq. ft. facility in 2007, doubling its size. The same year marked a significant achievement as the company received its first “Global Supplier Award” from Stryker Orthopedics. This recognised Croom Medical’s outstanding performance in providing high-quality orthopedic implants and commitment to meeting customer needs.

• In 2010, Croom Medical established an official Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) Board. This fostered collaborations with local universities to explore cutting-edge processes such as additive manufacturing technologies and polymer machining. This initiative highlighted Croom Medical’s dedication to innovation and maintaining a leading position in the industry.

• Croom Medical’s commitment to excellence continued in 2017 with significant investments in manufacturing capabilities. This included the acquisition of a metal 3D printer, robotic finishing cells, and additional CNC milling machine capacity. Additionally, the company deployed state-of-the-art mechanical, morphological, and chemistry testing equipment to ensure product quality.

• A major turning point occurred in 2020 when Croom Medical secured a multimillion-euro investment from BGF, becoming a minority investor. This investment fuelled Croom Medical’s rapid growth, enabling the expansion of its manufacturing capabilities. Today, Croom Medical operates with a dedicated team of nearly 170 professionals, running 24/7 shifts. The company’s senior management team brings extensive expertise from various renowned blue-chip companies.

• In 2021, Croom Medical reinforced its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The company adopted advanced technologies and eco-conscious strategies while prioritising employee growth, diversity & inclusion, and health and safety. Further technological investments included robotic systems and cutting-edge femoral CNC grinding and machining equipment. With land secured for future expansion, Croom Medical is primed to meet any future production demands.
