Initially, the company focused on machining precision tooling for companies such as Verbatim, Paco, Dell Computers, and Howmedica Osteonics in the local Raheen Industrial Estate. Over the past four decades, the company has evolved into a leader in medical manufacturing, now under the stewardship of CEO Patrick Byrnes, the founder’s son.

Croom Medical has experienced significant growth in recent years. Between 2021 and 2024, its workforce more than tripled, growing from 45 employees to over 150. This expansion was supported by a €12 million investment in facilities, including the integration of high-tech equipment such as metal 3D printing, automation systems, and new machining centres.

In 2023, the company’s R&D team achieved a major milestone by developing a titanium and tantalum-based orthopedic implant prototype. A world’s first, this hybrid implant is designed to improve patient outcomes by offering a lightweight yet durable solution.
