An engineering business rooted in Croom
Paddy Byrnes founded the business in a small engineering workshop in 1984. Its precision engineering roots have grown into orthopaedic manufacturing for international medical device companies.
The products and processes have evolved considerably. Precision machining now sits alongside metal additive manufacturing, finishing and inspection. Each capability depends on people who understand the detail of the work: how a component is made, how its requirements are checked and how the process can be improved.
Engineers, machinists, operators and quality specialists turn those capabilities into a manufacturing service. The campaign gives a wider audience a view of the people and expertise behind the products leaving Croom.
International work, local opportunity
Most of Croom’s output is exported, primarily to the United States. The campaign connects that international work with local careers and the opportunity to develop specialist skills in Co. Limerick.
Employees are also coaches, volunteers and neighbours. Croom Medical supports local schools, sport and community initiatives, reflecting the connections between the company and the town.
Investing in the next chapter
The next stage of that growth is taking shape through ACOT, the Advanced Centre of Orthopaedic Technologies. The expansion is intended to bring additional manufacturing and research capability to the campus, supported by investment in equipment, infrastructure and specialist skills.
The connection between those investments is central to the Growing Home story. Winning international work creates a reason to develop capability locally. Developing that capability gives the next generation a wider range of engineering and manufacturing careers to consider in the region.
