Pitch renewal work beside ACOT, from Croom Medical’s Week 31 project film.
Alongside the development of ACOT, work is progressing on sporting facilities serving Croom and the surrounding area. Our Week 31 project film shows the renewal of Croom United’s grass and training pitches and the wider Croom Community Fields development at Skagh. It is an investment in the places where local players, volunteers and families come together.
Renewing the grass pitches
The senior pitch works bring the existing playing surface and its extension together into an approximately 90 m by 60 m layout. Regrading, sand capping and reseeding are being combined with a substantial drainage programme, including around 1.4 km of lateral drains.
The adjacent training pitch, approximately 55 m by 25 m, is also being rebuilt. Formation and topsoil works prepare the ground for drainage, seeding and the period of establishment needed before a new grass surface is ready for use.
Much of the work that determines how a pitch performs sits below the surface. Levels, ground preparation and drainage all matter to its ability to recover after rainfall and withstand regular use. These are lasting improvements whose value will be felt through training sessions and match days over the years ahead.
A wider vision for local sport
The development at Skagh also includes progress on an all-weather pitch with a planned playing area of 92 m by 65 m. Associated works include fencing, ball-stop netting, access and parking. Together, the projects are intended to give the community a broader range of places to train and play throughout the year.
For local clubs, suitable space affects when younger teams can train, how coaches organise sessions and how families fit sport around work and school. Better facilities can make participation easier to sustain and give volunteers a stronger base for their work.
Supporting the place we call home
Croom Medical’s growth has always been connected to the town around it. Our people live here, raise families here and take part in the organisations that sustain local life. As we invest in manufacturing capability and skilled employment, supporting community infrastructure remains part of that relationship.
The works involve the contribution of several organisations and project teams. We thank Croom United, Atlantic Golf Construction, LyMar, Limerick City and County Council and everyone involved in bringing the plans forward.
The facilities remain a work in progress, and further updates will follow as construction and grass establishment advance. Watch the project film to see the work taking shape around the campus.
