The ACOT steel structure during fit-out, from Croom Medical’s Week 28 project film.
Croom Medical congratulates ODS Engineering on winning the Constructional Steelwork – Buildings category at the 2026 Irish Steel Awards for the Croom Medical Expansion Project. The award recognises the structural steelwork contribution to the development taking shape at our campus in Co. Limerick.
The engineering behind the building
ODS Engineering supplied, fabricated and installed approximately 130 tonnes of structural steel for the project, together with its roof and wall cladding package. The award submission describes the use of Trimble X7 point-cloud scanning and automated CNC fabrication as part of the delivery approach.
Those technologies connect the information used to plan and manufacture the structure with the conditions on site. In a building project, the accuracy of that relationship matters: the frame, envelope and subsequent installations all need to come together as intended.
A coordinated project team
The project brings together O’Neill O’Malley Architects, LyMar, DRA Consulting Engineers and ODS Engineering. Their respective contributions span architecture, construction, structural engineering, steel fabrication and installation.
The result is the physical framework for ACOT, Croom Medical’s Advanced Centre of Orthopaedic Technologies. As the programme progresses through fit-out and preparation for operation, the building will accommodate the equipment, people and processes needed for the next phase of the company’s development.
Recognising the people delivering ACOT
We thank the ODS Engineering team and our wider design and construction partners for their work on the project. This recognition gives us an opportunity to highlight the specialist expertise involved in delivering the expansion and to congratulate the people responsible for the award-winning steelwork.
